Platinum coated titanium electrode is mostly employed in water ionizers recently.

As an inert material, platinum does not react with the electrolytes or products during electrolysis. It also offers excellent electrical conductivity enabling increases in the longevity of the machine.


A water ionizer electrodes are one of the most important components and it falls into two basic categories – flat or mesh, flat plates are pretty straightforward and smooth, with no texture. Just a titanium plate with a platinum coating. Mesh plates come in a variety of designs. These plates start with a solid piece of high-grade titanium which is then textured in a number of different ways. Once the plate has been “textured” it is double-coated with platinum. Mesh electrodes are used based on the layers of electrical conductivity which indicate that textured metal surfaces are better conductors of electricity than flat metal surfaces when the coated square meter is the same.

This is why most newer water ionizer technology now uses electrodes with some sort of mesh design. Their coating falls into mixed metal oxide coating and platinum, generally, the mixed metal oxide coating electrode is of good conductivity and less expensive compared with platinized titanium electrode, while platinized titanium anodes are of better conductivity.

The key factor for a quality water ionizer is the material of the electrodes. Most good ionizers on the market use electrodes made of platinum-plated or mixed metal oxide coating on grade 1 titanium. Titanium will not dissolve in your ionized water as the cheaper metals like stainless steel do.
